Lochte Teams with Speedo to Launch New Capsule Collection at U.S. Nationals; Brings His Signature Style to the Pool Deck with Limited Edition Footwear Line

Ryan Lochte and his signature sandals
Swim star Ryan Lochte and SPEEDO®, the division of Warnaco Swimwear, Inc., today launched the Ryan Lochte Limited Edition Speedo Footwear Collection at the 2010 ConocoPhillips U.S. National Championships in Irvine, Calif. Lochte, who is known for his unique personal style, has been interested in fashion and style for many years both as a model and aspiring designer. With the collection, Lochte brings his “signature” style to the pool deck in two limited edition sandal styles in Speedo’s first-ever athlete capsule collection. The Ryan Lochte shoe line was created as a collaborative effort between Ryan and Speedo.
Lochte worked directly with the Speedo footwear team to design his Limited Edition Collection, which includes a men’s sandal and a women’s sandal, inspired by a special, personal high-top shoe that Lochte designed to wear on the pool deck and podium at Nationals.
The Lochte-designed sandals are currently available for purchase in limited quantities at the Speedo retail booth in Irvine through August 5th and will be available via www.speedousa.com beginning this fall. The men’s sandal retails for $24.99 the women’s sandal retails for $14.99.
“I love shoes and Speedo has a great footwear line, so designing my own Speedo footwear seemed like the perfect place to start,” said Lochte. “I really enjoyed working with the Speedo footwear team to create something that stands out and reflects my personal style.”
Both the men’s and women’s sandals feature a number of Lochte-designed elements, including the black, bright green, purple and bright yellow color scheme, and Lochte’s personal signature printed on the insole.
The sandals also feature Speedo’s new SPEEDO® FOAM™, an exclusive EVA material that provides shock absorption and long lasting comfort. Lochte’s personal high-tops also feature the signature bright green and yellow color scheme he incorporated in his sandals, but with patent leather inlays and some of his famous “bling,” fully encrusted with emerald green rhinestones.
Lochte’s high tops also include a custom sole with his name embedded on the bottom and Speedo’s signature HYDRO TREAD® technology, which is a lightweight, multi-directional, non marking rubber.
“Everyone knows that I like to take some risks when it comes to fashion and as you may have noticed, I think it’s really fun to wear an item that stands out – or as I like to say, ‘Martian’,” added Lochte. “I love wearing and creating styles that are out of this world and that was the inspiration behind the designs of my Limited Edition Speedo Footwear Collection, which is a way for me to share my personal style with the swimming community and consumers and bring a little Ryan Lochte flair to the pool deck… Jeah!”
Lochte is also working with Speedo to design a swimsuit capsule collection, which will launch this fall.
A Speedo-sponsored athlete since 2006, Lochte is a six-time Olympic medalist – including double gold in the 200m backstroke and 800m free relay in Beijing – and the current World Record holder in the 200m IM, set at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, where he also took home the world title in the 400m IM. He is now looking ahead to London where he hopes to compete in his third Olympic Games.
