LZR Racer FAQ

1. Have these suits been launched in direct response to FINA’s change in the rules?

Speedo has been at the forefront of swimsuit design for more than 80 years and continually develops new innovations and technologies. Speedo’s new generation performance swimwear – the Speedo LZR Racer Elite – has been in development for some time as we worked to expand our offering and choice for competitive swimmers.

While FINA’s rule changes have meant we have to rethink certain elements of our designs to ensure they are fully compliant with FINA rules, all of suits in the new Speedo LZR Racer Elite range have been fully approved by FINA. The Speedo LZR Racer Elite is Speedo’s most comprehensive and technically advanced range of performance swimmers of all levels.

2. What is the technology of the Speedo LZR Racer Elite?

Inspired by the record-breaking Speedo LZR Racer, the Speedo LZR Racer Elite range utilizes a fully bonded construction and features Speedo’s unique 3-D engineered pattern for optimum fit and exclusive ultra-lightweight low drag LZR Pulse fabric.

3. When are the suits available and in what styles?

The new Speedo LZR Racer® Elite and LZR Racer® Pro suit is available now in the male Jammer silhouette, female Recordbreaker Kneeskin and female Recordbreaker silhouettes . Prices range $180 – $375, depending on the silhouette.

4. What are the key technologies and/or design elements?

LZR Pulse Fabric:

The Speedo LZR Racer Elite is constructed from Speedo’s unique LZR Pulse fabric. Ultra Lightweight, powerful and water repellent, LZR Pulse reduces muscle oscillation and skin vibration through powerful and superior compression. This fast drying fabric is water repellent and also offers low skin friction drag.

Unique 3-D Three Piece Pattern:

The Speedo LZR Racer Elite is constructed with Speedo’s unique 3-D, three piece pattern. Derived from more than 400 body scans, the 3-D, three piece pattern is dynamically engineered to optimize the shape of the swimmer.

Bonded Seams:

The Speedo LZR Racer Elite range utilizes a fully bonded construction. As in the revolutionary LZR Racer, which was the world’s first fully-bonded competition swimsuit, the Speedo LZR Racer Elite features ultrasonically welded, bonded seams to create a smooth yet flexible streamlined surface.

Hydro Form Compression System:

The Speedo LZR Racer Elite is engineered (with the LZR Pulse fabric) to provide a streamlined and compressed shape across the whole body. This provides flexibility with optimum economy.

5. Which athletes will wear the LZR Racer Elite?

Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Natalie Coughlin and Katie Hoff are just some of the superstar athletes who will wear the Speedo LZR Racer Elite moving forward. Team Speedo athletes around the world, including Phelps, Lochte, Coughlin, Hoff and Eamon Sullivan (AUS), Liam Tancock (GBR), Taehwan Park (KOR), Leisel Jones (AUS) and Rebecca Adlington (GBR) have all been involved in the development of the Speedo LZR Racer and Speedo LZR Racer Elite suits.

6. Are these suits a quick fix?

Not at all. Speedo is continually developing new innovation and technology through its global R&D center, Aqualab.

Speedo has always fully supported FINA’s role in setting and managing the rules for the sport of swimming and we remain fully committed to the investment and development of the sport at every level.
